
Buffett declared that he was planning to donate more than 80 per cent of his wealth to charities. Buffett increased his donation to 99.9 percent in 2020. Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, created by Bill Gates and Melinda (the Microsoft founder) was the principal beneficiary. The foundation was focused on education and health in the world. Bill and Buffett had been close friends since the 90s. Other organizations that received donations included those run by Buffett's 3 children and the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation, named for his wife who passed away, which focused on women's reproductive rights and funded college scholarship programs. In 2010 Buffett as well as Gates Gateses created the Giving Pledge, an invitation for other wealthy people to give the bulk of their money to charities.
